At St. Clair Eye Clinic, contact lens fittings go well beyond selecting a prescription. Our fittings are designed to match the unique shape of your eyes, your vision needs, and how you use your eyes day to day.
Whether you are new to contacts or switching lens types, fittings focus on comfort, clarity, and long-term eye health. Options may include daily, biweekly, or monthly lenses, as well as specialty designs for astigmatism, presbyopia, or dry eye. The goal is reliable vision with lenses that feel natural and perform consistently.
A professional contact lens fitting plays a direct role in protecting your eye health over time. Lenses that do not fit correctly can reduce oxygen flow to the cornea, disrupt the tear film, and increase the risk of irritation, inflammation, or infection.
A proper fitting helps prevent issues such as dryness, redness, fluctuating vision, and lens intolerance that often develop with off-the-shelf or outdated prescriptions. It also ensures your lenses support healthy wearing habits as your eyes change with age, screen use, or medical conditions.
Booking a contact lens fitting is recommended whenever your vision needs, comfort, or eye health change. You should consider scheduling an appointment if you notice any of the following:
Addressing these signs early helps maintain comfortable wear and reduces the risk of longer-term eye irritation or vision issues.
Contact lens fittings at St. Clair Eye Clinic are guided by experienced medical optometrists and supported by advanced diagnostic technology that goes well beyond basic measurements. Dr. Neel Vyas brings decades of clinical experience managing complex vision needs, ocular surface conditions, and specialty lens cases, allowing fittings to be tailored with a higher level of precision and clinical insight.
When it comes to contact lenses, small details matter. High-resolution corneal imaging, tear film evaluation, and real-time lens assessment help ensure each lens supports eye health, comfort, and stable vision. Our thorough approach reduces trial and error and leads to more reliable, long-term wear outcomes.
There are a number of things to consider in terms of wearing and caring for contact lenses. Your optometrist will go over best practices for use. These may include:

Posted on Barbara Turner I couldn't be more enthusiastic about Dr. Korkis -- in fact, i think she may have saved the vision in my right eye. I went for a routine eye exam, she diagnosed a possible retinal tear, and through her contacts I was seen by a retinologist only a few hours later. He found a large tear and lasered it on the spot. (He failed to offer any follow-up advice -- although he did schedule another appointment -- but when I called Dr Korkis after the weekend, she immediately told me what I needed to know. In addition to her manifest diagnostic skills, she is friendly, personable, and very efficient. I am so glad to have found her.Posted on Nadia Bove I have been coming with my family since the clinic opened. Dr Vyas has always been excellent in his services and advice. Always taking the time to explain. I am so happy to have this service in our community. Great front staff especially Maria!Posted on Night Rider We have been using this clinic for many years. The place gives you immediate confidence when you enter and know that you have arrived in a professional environment. Dr. Neel Vyas heads this place. He treated me with utmost care and professionalism. He has added new test equipment to do a diagnosis of many kinds. I will continue to visit him because I know the diagnosis will be accurate. The reception staff is quite friendly too. The place is clean, and they display all designer eye glasses for one to choose. Price is very reasonable. I compared it, and I know this clinic is not overcharging me. One more thing: They display artful paintings and photographs for you to enjoy while waiting your turn.Posted on Ariela Gutfrajnd I recently experienced a very painful and scary corneal ulcer that appeared out of nowhere. I had never been to this clinic before but I called on a Saturday as an emergency when my symptoms first started. It ended up being an almost 2-month ordeal that I had to deal with and the care I received here was incredible! Both Dr. Korkis and Dr. Vyas were friendly and caring and were diligent about following up with me to ensure I was healing properly. The front desk staff were also very friendly and helpful! I highly recommend this place for eye care!Posted on JB Fiske I needed emergency eye care, and Dr. Korkis was extremely efficient and reassuring during the process. Yes. Contact lenses sit directly on the eye, so proper fit is essential for comfort, clear vision, and eye health. A fitting ensures the lens matches your eye shape and supports safe oxygen flow.
Your eyes are examined, precise measurements are taken, and trial lenses are evaluated on your eyes to confirm fit, movement, and visual performance before finalizing a prescription.
You cannot safely fit yourself for contact lenses. Online or self-selected lenses do not account for corneal shape, tear quality, or lens positioning, which can lead to irritation or injury.
Dilation is not always required. It may be used if your optometrist needs a clearer view of eye health or if other concerns are identified during the exam.
Most fittings take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on whether you are new to contacts or require specialty lenses.
Severe dry eye, active infections, untreated eye disease, or poor compliance with hygiene and wear schedules may limit contact lens eligibility.
Briefly closing your eyes is fine, but sleeping in contacts not approved for extended wear increases the risk of irritation and infection.
People with chronic eye infections, significant corneal conditions, or those unable to maintain proper lens care may be advised to avoid contact lenses.
